So I think I've decided on a tricycle for Topaz--the Schwinn Roadster. Valeri--I think that's what you have for Avery? Anyway, I'm not wild about it aesthetically, but the reviews are too good and the alternatives are...nonexistent really. And the price is good, so I guess that's what we'll be getting. Probably red, and that way Philip can have it when he's older.

For Philip, I am still trying to decide on a birthday present. I have a few that I'll put to Jake to decide:

I guess really, I need to decide what the intended use will be, inside or outside. Because honestly, that gorgeous Svan scooter is to die for cool, but it would only be for inside. So hard to say.

We're having winter again, which is nice. Snowshoeing soon.

I have the car today. Took Jake to work and then took the kids to the Discovery Center. Big mistake, never again. Topie had fun, but I was carrying Philip, and there just really wasn't much for him to do. I let him crawl around a bit sometimes, but the bigger kids were running wild and I felt like he was going to get trampled. And it's just so loud and overwhelming, so before two hours was up, we left. Came home, had lunch, and now watching Totoro again.

Added some people from high school and elementary school on facebook. Kind of weird/cool, I guess. I think I'm done second-guessing everything to do with the surreality of facebook. It is what it is, and everyone else seems fine with it, so I'll stop being weirded out by pseudo-contact.

More possible birthday presents for the boy:

Or, maybe I'll just bite the bullet and order some waldorf doll kits and make my own. I didn't particularly enjoy making Topie's little Heavy Baby, but it did turn out well, and they both play with it. I guess that's what I'd get the most satisfaction out of. Hmm.

We got Bea a Trek last year. Mr. Bike Geek picked it out, so I can't begin to tell you why or what's so awesome about it. ;)

Actually it was a lot cheaper than that, about $120 I think? Maybe it was on sale or maybe inflation has done that since last year.

I would have a hard time paying more than about $120 for a kid bicycle. But then, I haven't bought myself a bike in a really long time, so I'm probably way behind on bike prices anyway.

Does Bea like that bike? Is it a good size for her? I have no idea if I should be buying Topaz a tricycle or a real bike with training wheels. Thoughts?

She loves it. It just fit her when we got it; she was 35" with short legs. She is still on training wheels. She can really get around well with it now.

I think the gurus would say she's too old/big for a tricycle. Some say no training wheels, start with a balance bike and then go to a two wheeler (or you buy the two wheeler on the small side, take the pedals off, lower the seat, and use it as a balance bike until balance is learned).

Thanks for that! I guess I totally slacked and skipped the tricycle stage then. Oops.

So now I'm even more unsure what to get. I wonder if I put Topie at a disadvantage by never getting her a tricycle. She has ridden them before, but not regularly, and I doubt she's super comfortable on them because of it. It seems like she'd require a lot of very close supervision on something as big and tippy as a 12" bike. And I doubt I could give her that while simultaneously keeping track of Philip. An then what do I get for him?? AAACK.
