I'm already thinking about Philip's birthday--just over two months away. I can't even believe it's already that close.

ANYWAY. He's the first non-fall birthday in our family (mine, of course, never really counts), and I'm so thrilled to be able to make a birthday cake that's not carrot/apple/maple/spice. Anyone got any great ideas for a March birthday cake for a one-year old? So far I'm having some fairly lame ideas--angel food, banana, that kind of thing. I want minimal sugar, no dairy, no soy, no corn. Something different for a change. Ideas?

Also, I'll be making him a birthday crown out of felt, if I get my act together, and a birthday banner, if I get my act together. These things will go in the Birthday box and be used for all birthdays. I also want to buy a birthday ring because I love the idea and think they're really cool.

For presents, I'm debating between a train set and some kind of ride-on toy. We have not a single ride-on toy, and no train set. And a little doll, as he is quite taken with Topie's, and I've been wanting to make a little doll anyway. If you have seen any neat things I should know about, let me know.

I want to write out stories of each kid's birth to read to them on their birthdays. Not like a gory birth story thing, but in a way that they would enjoy...the day leading up to their births, how we felt, what we did, how little they were, what the weather was like, who was there, etc. Write it out, put it on some pretty paper and illustrate/decorate it a bit.

And then of course I'll invite 30 kids to Chuck E Cheese.
