Christmas planning, for the kids mostly
I've got this crazy urge to start working on birthday and Christmas presents for the kids. Twitchy, even.
I want to make both kids a waldorf doll. I've wanted to do this for a while, but haven't had the time. Not that I do now, but I can at least get them started. Probably a fuzzy headed baby for Philip, and an older girl for Topaz. I have only made a heavy baby so far, so I don't have any experience with hair or limbs, but I have people who have offered to teach me these things, so it should be fun. Probably one of these for Topaz: http://www.joyswaldorfdolls.com/doll_kits_and_patterns/16_honey_doll.htm or http://www.weirdollsandcrafts.com/waldorf-doll-kit/waldorf-doll-kit.html, and something like this for Philip: http://www.dancingraindolls.com/Snuggles_doll_Kit.html
OR maybe a mermaid doll for Topie: http://www.weirdollsandcrafts.com/waldorf-doll-kit/mermaid-doll-kit.html
Also, a sparkly topaz necklace for Topie. I don't have a specific vision just yet, and it might even be a bracelet. I'm casually looking around for topaz beads that appeal to me. They can't be too big, but sparkly. I'm torn on color, though. They're all so pretty. I love the london blue, but the yellow is so pretty...thoughts? I think her actual birthstone is the yellow one. I saw some beads on etsy that staggered me, but sorry, can't spend $250 on a string of beads just now. Let me know if you see anything that makes you think of Topie? There's also these polished but not cut stones: http://www.tootoo.com/d-rp24879123-topaz_yellow_Jade_beads_semi_precious_gemstone_beads/
Maybe some knitted and sewn toys--bean bags with lavender, more felted wool balls, dollhouse blankets and pillows, doll clothes, etc.
I've also been thinking about floor cushions again. We have a real problem with seating arrangements here. I bought a ton of corduroy on sale a few years back with this in mind, but only now do I have a sewing machine I can figure out. So...it would require pretty much no materials. I'd just have to find a good stuffing material, and a way to close the cover--zipper? velcro? buttons?
Something physical for the kids to do inside all winter. I am stumped on this one. I was thinking walking blocks or something they can do inside together. Ideas? Maybe a seesaw, but that would take up a lot of space. I'd like something sturdy they can safely climb on that has many functions. Playstands, only not. I'm not spending that kind of money. OMG--check this out. Only, serious money involved. Has anyone seen anything cool at IKEA lately? It seems like they'd have something I'd like.
Oh man, looking into topaz beads...
When we decided on the name Topaz, I came across something online that said the word has its origins in Greece, meaning "to seek". Well, that's pretty cool, right? But look at this: http://www.gehnabazaar.com/gemstones/51/topaz.html
"The name topaz is believed to have been derived from the sanskrit word ‘tapas’, meaning fire. It was the mystic fire topaz that was considered to have many healing properties."
WELL HMM. Ya think? Topie, fire?

FOR JAKE--a knitted coat, probably the Einstein coat. Ideally out of my own handspun, but that might be extremely time-consuming and not plausible. Especially because both kids also need new coats made. We'll see. Definitely a coat though. Should start soon! Just the knitting will take a while, never mind the spinning.
