Jun. 9th, 2006 11:14 amYesterday I had quite the scare. Topie and I got home from my hair appointment, and I set her down on the living room floor where she always plays. I was about to go to the bathroom to fiddle with my new hair, when she started fussing. So I went in to pick her up and make sure she had enough toys close by, when I noticed about two inches away from her was the Biggest Spider this side of the Mississippi. TWO INCHES AWAY FROM HER.
I picked her up so fast and we just ran. As far from it as we could get in the apartment. Then I thought about it and realised I was NOT taking any chances that the thing might run and hide and make me terrified to be in my own home. So I got Jake and the phone so he could hear the ongoing drama, and started throwing heavy books at it. Plato's collected works barely injured it. The Milk-free Kitchen didn't do much. Finally I pulled out Jake's Arnold book of bodybuilding. That did it. I kicked the book a few times for good measure, then packed up the kid and we took off. Hid in the car for a while, traumatized. Then just started driving. Met Jake, went out for dinner.
When we got home even Jake was like, Whoa, that IS big. Ugh. I thought I moved away from this kind of thing. It was bigger than Topie's hand. And scary. I've never seen one like that before. Anyway, spider death icon!

sorcha, I got your message. Buffalo is a few hours from us, but we'll be passing through going to Niagara Falls on the weekend of June 30th. Not sure if we can manage it, since it's my mom's vacation, but maybe.
