I want to make my journal friends-only just so I can use this.

My to-do list is out of control. It would probably be a good idea to take a shower and start working on it. But the bathroom pretty much makes me sick now. When we were in Boston, I made a special trip to Newbury Street to go to Lush. I spent a small fortune on pretty bath stuff, but now the smell of it is making me sick.

I'm having a very hard time with smells right now. Yesterday Jake wanted to go to A&W for dinner. I told him no way was I eating that, but if that's what he wanted, I would go with him. I couldn't set foot in the place, so we went through the drive thru. As soon as he unwrapped his hamburger I just about lost it, and I swear I have never removed myself from a car in such a hurry. I waited outside the car until he was finished with it, then ordered him to get me home FAST, as I held my nose halfway home. Just lovely. Then in bed last night, I couldn't sleep because I could smell my neighbor's dog on me, so I had to take a shower. I'm really tired of this.

I have the horrible feeling my 3450347037 library books are overdue. It would be nice if I had a clue.

Be careful taking a bath. Make sure the water is warm and not hot. Hot (like hot tub temperature water) water can hurt the baby.

I'm generally not a bath person, but I've read that. I've had problems with showers though, and I get hot VERY easily. So the water always ends up freezing by the time I get out.

And didn't you say you had sneezing issues? I've had sneezing fits several times a day, like one on top of another. And it's only when I feel a really big wave of nausea. My mother thinks I'm a biological anomoly.

I didn't puke my entire pregnancy. I sneezed like mad all the damn time instead. Especially for the first 14 weeks.

So bizarre. That sounds exactly like me. I've never heard of this before.

I'm having sympathy smell problems! Only mine is because I'm an idiot and poured so many ear drops in my ears that it's still leaking out of my nose. Still, I cannot finish a subway because of the smell of the bread, etc.
Why does that happen to pregnant people? Is it a mechanism for not toxifying the baby, since he/she can proportionally handle less harmful substances? Or is it hormones?
Yesterday I drank a lime because I had a craving for it; do you crave limes?

Ugh. Subway bread is gross.

I read a book on morning sickness, and it seems it's evolutionary in that it tends to make all potentially dangerous/spoiled foods entirely unpalatable. Apparently in the entire world, there are only a couple of cultures not affected by morning sickness, and they have corn-based diets. Japan is known to have the worst morning sickness, which makes sense because that diet is largely composed of fish and shellfish, which can easily spoil. My cravings/aversions mostly back this up, as I've consistently craved stuff i don't usually eat, lots of carbs, potatoes, pasta, lots of storable stuff. Even fruits and vegetables freak me out sometimes, which I've read is normal. I can tell you a month in advance if milk is spoiled.

Not limes, but Sprite. Today for the first time in YEARS, I had a real, fully sugared Sprite, and I got a LARGE. Drank it all in practically one go, and it was the most wonderful thing I ever had. Strangely, water still makes me sick.

Perhaps you have a vitamin C deficiency? Make the most of it: [livejournal.com profile] pro_scurvy

Aha! And Sprite has natural flavors- like lime!
Interesting about the water- I saved an article from the New York Times about long distance runners, the ones who run slowly enough to have time to drink lots of water. Their kidneys cannot process the water while they are running so their blood cells swell and their total blood is diluted. When the blood in the brain swells enough they have seizures, and some die. Then, some are taken to the hospital and since everyone thinks it's dehydration they inject them with fluid whereas the solution was really simple and just the opposite- to inject them with a sodium solution.
So what does the book tell you to do about morning sickness?

I heard about that when I lived in Boston, as they have the Boston Marathon, and people have died in it that way.

The book says grit your teeth and get through it because nothing can be done. I have begged Jake to have me put into a coma and kept alive until it's over, but for some reason he won't do it. Probably an insurance issue.

Then you're reading the wrong book.
