May. 15th, 2006 11:35 pmTopie and Jake are asleep. Sweet, sweet alone time.
My back is slowly getting better. Jake has been using the amazing vibrating back massager from Sharper Image on my back, and it's helping to loosen things up. I can't even believe how tense my back is. My ribs are on the mend, but it still hurts to carry Topie. And it's uncomfortable to sleep in most positions. But I'm getting better.
Topie is definitely at some big developmental stage. I have this book that explains the 8 major fussy phases, and offers advice on how to get through them and make the most of them, with toy/game recommendations, and tips on how to stay sane. It's a great book that I wish I had had earlier.
She just woke up and I had to feed her again. She's been eating every ten minutes for the last few days. She gets really whiny and then sucks on her thumb like mad. It's incredibly annoying.
Anyway. Tonight I had her sitting on the floor in front of the couch, where I was reading this book. And I noticed she was leaning over to try to see me past the book. And I caught her eye, and she laughed! And it was the start of an impromptu game of peek-a-book, initiated by her. She started it! We both laughed for a long time. She is the laughingest baby I have ever seen. Jake's mom bought this ancient baby backpack at a garage sale, and Jake wore it for a walk. Topie could not stop laughing. She was just giddy. It was truly hilarious.
She's getting stronger every day. Tonight she did basically downward-facing dog, lots of times. She's going to be crawling very soon. She has already figured out non-crawling ways to get all the way across the room, so I guess it won't be that big of a difference.
She's got a lot of separation anxiety. If I leave her sight, or sometimes if I put her down, she gets very upset. I spend a lot of time on the floor with her. I'm so glad we have blocks.
Today I had to pull over on the way home, when we were about ten minutes from home, because she was crying so miserably. She just wanted me to hold her.
I really need to find time to read more about baby development so I know what's going on and why she keeps acting different every week. Keeping up with a baby is hard work. Probably best if I stay a step ahead.

Date: 2006-05-16 03:21 pm (UTC)We need some good wooden blocks. That's about the only toy this spoiled kid doesn't have.
I hate when they're crying in the car. It's about the worst ever, since there's nothing you can really do. I'm always on the beltway or some other road where I can't pull over.

Date: 2006-05-16 04:08 pm (UTC)I'd definately be interested in seeing some block sites. :) I was thinking I could just make them myself (or ask one of the grandpas to make them), but I figure then it'll be fifty years before he gets blocks. Though I guess he really doesn't *need* them anytime soon, or at all.
Mostly Matt and I just want to build.

Oh, and were you still thinking about making nursing necklaces? I'm thinking about getting one in the hopes that it'll keep my little ADD baby interested and nursing. Right now it's a wrestling match.
