This is about as basic as you can get, but it works. Topie's little hands seem to like it (though before she got used to it, she would stop nursing and try to eat it.) It's a knitted cord knotted with some polished stone disk beads. Makes a nice clinky sound when you shake it, and the whole thing is safe for her to chew on. I was going to do something more elaborate, but since this works...

What's the point of nursing necklaces, just for something fun for them to do while eating? I'm curious :).

Yep. Keep them occupied, give them something to grab that's not your hair, that sort of thing.

Lately Topaz has become very easily distracted while nursing. Also, her hand wanders everywhere, so she pulls my hair, scratches my chest, plays with my face (ouch), among other things that are generally annoying. Now she grabs onto the necklace and twirls it around her hand, and it keeps her hand busy. It's a good thing.

That's so neat. I'd always heard about them and assumed it was from them but just never asked :).
