I've had a really hard time feeling enthusiastic about this election. I watched a couple of the debates and thought, Obama is a good speaker. That's about it. The man can talk. Is that what's so great about him? I see all this talk about how great he is, and I'm wondering...why? So, Ljers, I know a lot of you are very into Obama, so please tell me why. Last election I couldn't bring myself to vote, which made me feel sick and guilty, but I almost feel the same way this time around.

I just have a weird feeling in my gut that I'd regret voting for Obama.

Okay, this is not what you asked for. ;) But, I really wanted to like him. I love his enthusiasm and he really seems authentic about wanting to make the world a better place. I just think he's going about it in the wrong way in many ways. There is a commonality in the dems and reps these days in wanting to make things better by forcing conformity in some sense or another. I don't know how people can be so vehemently for personal choice and responsibility in one sphere but not in another. They're like two sides of a ying-yang coin.

why would you feel like you'd regret voting for him?

i mean, i have my reservations, too, but that's because the system is so fucked that voting is a joke and i know this. i like him because he's hot. i like him because he's controversial. i like him because he was raised by a single mother on foodstamps. i like him because he can speak and he knows what the hell he's talking about and he, overall, shares the same views i find important. while i am not undecided as to who i'd vote for, i am undecided as to whether or not i'm voting at all.

well, if it weren't for the fact that i really can't stand mccain and would do whatever i could to avoid a mccain (bush) presidency... let alone the very notion that he might keel over and then palin would be in charge (god help us all)... if it wasn't a close race and i knew there was no chance of a mccain presidency, i would have voted for the green party candidate (http://www.gp.org/index.php). at this point, i'm disgusted with the fear tactics the GOP is employing, not to mention their support of "trickle down economics", their idea that women's health (or choice) is a non-issue, and their support of trade policies that only serve to perpetuate the main causes of this immigration "problem" in america.

i definitely like and support obama because i feel his solutions and vision blend well with my own and would benefit the country as a whole (rather than cater to the desires of those who can afford to persuade folks by hiring lobbyists), but at this point my vote was cast to prevent disaster rather than out of pure belief in obama and the democratic platform.

i'm totally over this election now... i can't wait until it's over.
