Topie didn't fall asleep until 9:30 this morning. It was nice, at least, that I was up when Jake got up, so we got to hang out before he left for work. And I got to see sunshine and blue sky for a little while.

We slept for 7 solid hours, and I decided to try something. I got her up to feed and change her, and now I'm going to try to keep her awake until a decent sleeping time. I have nothing to lose, because even if it doesn't work, I have enough sleep to get by.

Normally she'll sleep for 7 hours, wake up to eat, go right back to sleep for at least 3 more hours, wake up to eat, and then sleep for maybe another couple hours. By then I'm up and I take a shower or try to get stuff done while she's still asleep. This is the pattern, though the actual time frame of it is continuously shifting. If I can keep her awake (and I know, this seems kind of mean to me) until maybe 9-10pm, then we'll all go to bed and see what happens. I need to at least TRY this for my own sanity.

Just so you know- I don't think that sounds mean. You know what they say - "if mama ain't happy ain't nobody happy"! If you need to change the schedule for your own sanity, then that's what you need to do. :)

I did try, but she was so sleepy it killed me to keep waking her up. Ah well. If I wasn't getting enough sleep there would be a problem, but since I am I'll just get through this crazy phase.

I'm not sure if it's true or not, but when Benjamin had his nights and days confused she told us sunlight on his eyelids would somehow help to regulate the night/day cycle. (?)

Really? I've been wondering about that. Our apartment is totally uninsulated and thus freezing and expensive to heat, so Jake has tons of sheets of insulation covering the windows. It works well, except totally blocks out the sun. I keep thinking if we took it all down, she might figure things out. But then we'd be freezing and spend all our food money on electricity. Ugh. I don't know which is more important to me at this point.

Maybe if you have one little window you can uncover at least for a little while each day to get some sun in? Or maybe you guys could get bundled up and go for a little daytime walk?
We just spent a lot of time holding Benjamin in front of the window during the day, plus trying to wake him up to eat often during the day and not at all at night (just him waking me when he was ready). I'm not sure if it was one thing or the other that helped him to figure out night and day, or if it was just something he worked out on his own, but it seemed to work.
