And naturally I discovered I was lacking a key ingredient for dinner. So out I go into the rain, sort of scared, because pretty much every accident I've been in has been in weather like this. Anyway. I'm fine. I survived. I'm just waiting for that whole snow and ice thing to keep me homebound for six months, in terror.

My new rain jacket that Jake bought me came in quite handy.

The one good thing about driving here is that whatever the people here are or aren't, they're not psychos when it comes to driving in rain. We all slow down, no one has followed me too closely, no one slams on their brakes right ahead of you, or cuts you off so you have no choice but to hit them. It's almost as if--and i could be imagining this--people compensate for the bad weather. I always thought, in my most idealistic phases, that it would be nice to live in a place where people slightly alter their driving to suit the weather. Nothing dramatic, just SANITY. Anyway, it's nice. It makes me feel more confident.

I've gone a couple days without deodorant now, which seems to have helped. I put some lavender and tea tree oil on the cut and a lot of the swelling and redness went away, it doesn't hurt, and--get this--I smell better than I ever did with deodorant. We have a winner. It always struck me as sort of unnatural to try to prevent perspiration. Who thought of that?
